Anomalous Health Incidents (AHI)
Complex Exposure Threats Center of Excellence (CETCE)
VHA has identified a critical need to evaluate emerging health information regarding Anomalous Health Incidents (AHI), referred to as Havana Syndrome in the media. AHI is an emerging health and readiness concern for the Department of Defense (DOD) and Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) since a significant number of Veterans were among existing AHI cases. A clear cause of AHI is yet to be identified, therefore additional clinical and research work is needed to help prevent, diagnose, treat and aid current and future cases. While emerging literature suggests some symptoms associated with AHI are similar to those of traumatic brain injury, clinical and scientific understanding of the causes and prognosis for AHI continues to evolve. CETCE plays a central role this on-going evolution.
