Anomalous Health Incidents (AHI)
Complex Exposure Threats Center (CETC)
VHA has identified a critical need to evaluate emerging health information regarding Anomalous Health Incidents (AHI). Anomalous Health Incidents, commonly referred to as Havana Syndrome in the media, are an emerging health and readiness concern for the Department of Defense (DOD) and Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). Symptoms associated with AHI are similar to those of traumatic brain injury. Other AHI symptoms, however, including unexplained sensory symptoms, have not been associated with specific medical conditions. The scientific community’s understanding of the causes and prognosis for AHI is continuing to evolve. CETC will lead the VA AHI’s response by evaluating known adverse physiological effects of AHI through collaborative research programs with CETC’s DoD and academic partners.
