Comprehensive Interdisciplinary Evaluation

When a Veteran is referred to the WRIISC and receives an E-Consult, our team may determine the Veteran would benefit from a comprehensive interdisciplinary evaluation to inform the ongoing care at his or her home VA.
WRIISC comprehensive interdisciplinary evaluations are second opinion clinical consultations for combat deployed Veterans. A WRIISC comprehensive interdisciplinary evaluation may benefit deployed Veterans with:
- Chronic, medically unexplained symptoms lasting longer than six months who have been evaluated by primary care and specialty care but questions remain.
- Persistent chronic health symptoms despite many tests and treatments with little to no symptom improvement.
- Complex exposure histories and exposure-related health conditions.
WRIISC Comprehensive Interdisciplinary Evaluations include:
- Comprehensive medical evaluations for post-deployment health concerns
- Military occupational and environmental exposure assessments
- Neuropsychiatric and neuropsychological evaluations
- Advanced diagnostic testing when clinically indicated
- Health education related to post-deployment concerns
- Integrative health and wellness tools and treatment recommendations
These evaluations are typically done through virtual health as WRIISC sees Veterans from VA centers across the country. At the end of the evaluation, WRIISC providers communicate the summary of key clinical findings to the Veteran, using patient-friendly language, and the referring provider. The WRIISC evaluation results are linked to the WRIISC Inter-Facility Consult (IFC) so the referring provider is flagged when the WRIISC consult is complete.
