War Related Illness and Injury Study Center
How Does Project IN-DEPTH Work?
Project IN-DEPTH
-
VA IN-DEPTH: Recruit a GW cohort (75) and evaluate these veterans remotely to collect GWI data on illness severity, domains of illness, and impact on function and biological samples. VA IN-DEPTH will involve:
-
Remote recruitment and screening as a convenient way to engage in research from home prior to NIH study referral
-
Tiered screening strategy to allow for multiple checkpoints and evaluations of Veteran’s data throughout the study
-
Follow-up care and a study reunion to share results with those who participated in the study
-
Management of data and specimen repository to enable broader access to information collected in this study to increase the impact of the findings
-
Study Procedures:
-
NIH IN-DEPTH: Enroll eligible GW Veterans for a 2-week in-person stay at the NIH Clinical Center in Bethesda, MD. During this visit, the research team will evaluate many body systems including cardiac, pulmonary, neurological, and metabolic function. Some tests include:
-
Medical Exams
-
Blood Work
-
Stationary Bike Exercise Testing
-
Neuropsychological testing
-
Medical Imaging (ex. MRI)
-
Travel and lodging will be provided for each participant. Participants will also be compensated for completed research-related activities.
