VA has been conducting research focused on Gulf War Veterans since the mid to late 1990s.

Research has led to insights on possible causes of Gulf War Illness, and treatments to address symptoms and improve quality of life. However, there are more questions that need answers.

This publication used case definitions to identify Veterans who met criteria for Gulf War Illness in the first 5 years following the Gulf War: Gulf War Illness in the 1991 Gulf War and Gulf Era Veteran Population.

Gulf War Illness Common Data Elements were created to reflect the recommendations of GWI research allowing for standardization of data.
